Lots of fun - and a learning toy too Nov 15, 2008 My kids both loved this game and will play around with it independently or with someone else. I really like that it has multiple levels so it can grow with them. I believe my son received it for his 3rd birthday. My almost 4 year old now plays with it though my almost 7 year old hasn't been interested in a while (though he's not a game kid). I have bought it for birthday presents because my kids enjoyed it so much. I love Cranium!
Even Mommy enjoys it Nov 12, 2008 We were introduced to this toy at a friend's house -- her kids taught my little one how to play. He talked about it for months, and then when a Wal*Mart sale came along, we bought the game. The three-year old remembered how to play, taught the rest of the family how to play, and we all enjoy it.
It's super easy -- work together to find the treasure. It teaches letter recognition, counting, color matching, and cooperation -- at two skill levels. Beginners work with shapes, ABC, 1,2,3,4, red/yellow/green/blue. Advanced players work with the full alphabet, numbers to 10, and the same colors. It is very easy to switch skill levels -- the "windows" have cards that flip over, and there are two packs of playing cards (beginner and advanced).
I am not much of a gamer -- I yawn my way through candy land, but this game is much more engaging.
When we outgrew the game, it was still in good shape (after months and months of play). We had taken it to church meetings to entertain crowds of kids while Mom and Dad worked. We had taken it on vacation. We had played it a LOT, at both skill levels, and my kids had taught a dozen or more kids (plus assorted babysitters) how to play. My oldest had made it harder by changing the rules. It is in good enough shape that we gave it to another family, three little girls under three, and we taught the oldest how to play it. I hope they will enjoy it for a long time.
I enjoyed the game partly because my kids were creative with it. I enjoyed it partly because it is so much fun to watch children's minds grow. I enjoyed it partly because it is good for teaching turn-taking. I enjoyed watching my kids teach other people. And I enjoyed playing the game -- it *is* fun to open the windows and find the balls, and it was VERY fun to play by the new rules we invented.
And I like how durable it is.
Great, great game.
Outstanding fun while learning Nov 09, 2008 I actually purchased this game a couple of years ago, but just opened it now that our daughter is 3. This is the first game that she has wanted to play consistently almost every day and several times a day. We play it as a family. We have Candy Land, Chutes & Ladders, and your other standard preschool games. None of them keep her interest and attention as this one does.
There are 2 games included. One is the Beginner level. In this game, children draw cards with colors, numbers, shapes or letters on them. Then they must choose which "door" matches the card. At this level, they are only to match the first letter of the words. When they find a door that matches, they must use the key to open the door and see if a ball is under the door. If a ball is there, they place it in the treasure chest "chute". When all 6 balls are collected and placed in the "chute", the treasure chest will open.
There is also an advanced level. To play this level you use a 2nd set of cards and flip over the cards on the doors. This level uses recognition of lower case letters (along with upper case), colors and numbers. Sometimes we play only recognizing numbers and letters as our daughter finds the colors too easy.
This game has helped her with her counting habits and recognizing letters within words (such as helicopters, foxes, yo-yo, vegetables, zebras, etc.)
One of the best things about this game is that each time you play it's different. The balls can end up behind different doors. Also, you can switch around the placement of the door cards, so your child isn't playing just by memorizing which door has the answer. And you can change the "rules" of the game by ignoring certain cards (like saying, no colors - only letters and numbers).
I have not had any quality issues with this game. We always make sure that she plays with her games appropriately (although never had a problem with her breaking games), but I know that every child is different. I could see where the door cards could be punctured, but you would have to really hit it hard with the key to do that.
This is one of our favorite games to play as a family and our daughter. It's the only game that keeps her attention span at 3 years old.
Highly recommended.

My 3-year-old LOVES this game! Oct 28, 2008 I have been woken up to "Cariboo, Mommy?" That pretty much says it all...it is his favorite game on the planet. I actually enjoy it too- it is not as mind-numbing as Chutes and Ladders or some of the other basic roll-and-move type of game. Even my 5-year-old daughter loves playing it with him. My only complaint isn't really a complaint, but I wish that there was a booster set or some additional cards available for purchase. The "easy" side of the cards is easy for a 3-year-old, but the "advanced" side is too difficult. It would be nice if there were more options. Overall- I highly recommend. It is educational and fun- what a great combination!
Great for kids Preschool to Middle School Sep 12, 2008 I've played this game with my students, from preschool to middle school. The game helps preschoolers learn colors, shapes, and numbers. Middle school students love how fun it is. An excellent game!!!
